Local Priorities Knife Crime Message

I wanted to provide an update regarding knife crime, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

We are aware that many people may be worried about knife crime in their local communities. We are committed to tackling knife crime wherever we find it, in order to keep you safe.

If you would like to know more about the guidance that is available, our website includes a number of important resources that can offer guidance,  including what to do if you think someone you know needs helphow to keep people safe, and support organisations you can talk to.

Passing on information to organisations such as Crimestoppers or Fearless can not only help after a crime or incident, but vitally stop something from happening.

Officers were on a joint operation this afternoon with Immigration Enforcement on the border of Cricket Green just by the Tandem Centre. This aim of this operation was to tackle 2 wheeled crime along with intelligence suggesting that delivery drivers in the local area might be working illegally.

Immigration officers arrested one male after working as a delivery driver on a student visa.

Then, a male decided to walk past officers openly smoking cannabis, he was detained and found in possession of two knives as well as more cannabis. He has been arrested for these offences.

Not long after that, a delivery driver was stopped and there was previous information suggesting that the rider of the moped might be in possession of offensive weapons. Due to this information he was also searched and found in possession of a knuckleduster with a blade attached. He was promptly arrested as well.

On the way back from dealing with these incidents we passed by London Road near Glebe Court we came across a female who has a Court Order banning her from Mitcham Town Centre, she has once again breached it and once again been arrested.

We will aim to do more of this joint working with our colleagues from UK Border Agency. But I am really pleased with the teams results today. Some dangerous items taken off the streets.

If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk/, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
